About Us

Nour International is a global network of students and educators supporting the Nour Center, a community school for Syrian and Palestinian youth in the Burj Al Barajneh refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon.

Originally founded in 2014 by students at the American Community School at Beirut, Lebanon, we work in collaboration with the Women's Program Association (WPA) at the Burj Al Barajneh refugee camp to improve the quality of education provided in the Nour Center, a school for over 200 Syrian and Palestinian children, whose ages range from 6 to 24 years old.

Our fundamental goal is to support the Nour Center -  through providing financial support, school supplies, lessons, and extracurricular activities. We are dedicated to ensuring that the Nour Center remains open.

Currently, we are working to build partnerships with high schools and colleges around the world. Our current partners include schools from: South Africa, China, and several schools in the United States. Our partners help us fundraise for the Nour Center in order to help it in expanding and enhancing its facilities.

We are continuously working on events and projects that serve to raise awareness about the refugee crisis across Lebanon and the globe. Most recently, we were awarded a grant in summer 2018 to create a curriculum for US students on the refugee crisis and the continued importance of education for Syrian and Palestinian youth.

OUR MISSION IS TO KEEP THE NOUR CENTER OPEN AND THRIVING THROUGH FUNDRAISING AND ADVOCACY

We believe:

  • All children are entitled to an education.

  • By addressing the local issue of refugees in the Burj Al Barajneh Camp, we will consequently bring attention to and address the global refugee crisis.

  • Education comes in many forms and fosters hope, liberation, and resistance.

  • It is vital for students from around the globe to empower their fellow students.

Our Mission

We achieve our mission by:

  • Establishing long-lasting friendships with the students and staff at the Nour Center.

  • Empowering the students with our student-led extra-curricular activities.

  • Actively advocating for the children both locally and internationally, and searching for schools across the globe to establish relationships with.

  • Ensuring the education of the students at Burj Al Barajneh, through supporting the teachers in the classroom, providing English courses and other activities, and actively funding for, and advocatingthe Nour Center.
